| Our goal is to provide clean water to 5 villages in 10 years. We started with the village of Mtumba in 2005, the village of Chisichili in 2007, the village of Kisima Cha Ndege in 2008/2009, Chikola in 2009, Matumbulu in 2010/2011 and have now started working with the village of Isangha in 2011. An important part of the success of our program is the "follow-up-reviews" we do with the village leaders responsible for the ongoing / self-sustaining operation of each program. We just completed comprehensive reviews of all Mtumba, Chisichili, Chikola, Kisima Cha Ndege, Matumbulu and Isangha programs during our visit in September 2011. We continue to learn more about how to develop and tailor "best practices" as we work with these villages and prepare for others in the future. The overall needs of the villagers are so great it can quickly become overwhelming to any organization trying to help. At Tanzania Life Project we've learned that to be successful we must focus our attention on the primary needs of water with a limited number of other programs. We do listen to the needs of the villagers beyond our primary focus and try to look for other organizations who can provide the needed assistance. A couple of great examples of this are our partnerships with Abbott Fund to provide HIV/AIDS support and Friends of Tanzania to provide school upgrades in the Mtumba ward. |
